Transnationalism and Globalisation:
Chinese Immigrant Entrepreneurs in Finland
The goal of the study is to understand transnational migration; its relation to globalisation, the nature of network society and the role of cultural diaspora. Another line of questioning tackles the micro-level socio-economic environment where the social embeddedness of immigrant entrepreneurs is seen in the concrete context of local markets and opportunity structure, and analysed in the macro-level socio-political space that exceeds from China to Finland. The theoretical aim is to critically examine the notion of transnationalism and to asses its degree of correspondence in the Finnish - Chinese context.
The study is a PhD dissertation carried out for the Centre of East Asian Studies at the University of Turku. The project is funded by Jenny and Antti Wihuri Foundation.
